Random Studio is an experience design studio, based in Amsterdam and Paris, who are leading the way in exciting and immersive retail experiences, both temporary and permanent.

They have a special expertise in digital, bringing the physical store to life through interactive installations and super innovative use of AI and AR.

The most impressive example of this is the amazing Gucci store at SKP Chengdu, which wraps the atrium around the staircase with LED screens featuring AI generated content, to create a constantly morphing digital garden that combines the Florentine Classical architecture of the Gucci brand origin, with the natural landscape of the Chengdu region. Dubbed ‘Romantic Futurism’ this is one of the most charming uses of technology in retail that we have ever seen.

Random Studio have continued this innovation with digital nature for the fabulous facade of the Boucheron Flagship in Ginza, Tokyo. This features an innovative generative projection of seasonal garden that combines, light and movement to add visual drama and a constantly changing streetscape appeal.

Their other main focus of attention is sustainability, both in building and creating, but also in the storytelling around sustainable themes. They have been a certified B Corp business since 2022.

They first appeared on our radar with the fabulous Jaquemus Le Bleu sensorial pool concept pop up at Selfridges, an instagram smash that combined spacial design, art installations and smell to create a series of storytelling experiences across Selfridges including windows and the Corner Store. This playful concept had immersive pool style changing rooms complete with white towels, a vending machine and blue tiled pool themes throughout.

Random Studios have a world class portfolio of immersive storytelling pop ups, most notably for Nike at their Paris House of Innovation.

This flagship format from Nike features an entrance atrium that is designed as a permanently changing pop up activation arena, and since the store opened in 2021 Random Studio have designed and installed a host of superb storytelling installations: ‘Move to Zero’ was an exhibition dedicated to showcasing Nike’s sustainability initiatives, whilst the Breathe Lab brought yoga to life with an interactive pod that turned your breathwork into a personal ‘Aura Portrait’ through innovative use of thermal imaging. A partnership with Hyprvsn, brought holographic Nike trainers onto the shopfloor in a futuristic sci-fi style exhibition.

Random Studios works closely with department stores and brands. A recent installation shows how they can pack a lot of experience into a small space: To showcase C.P. Company’s latest GORE-TEX® jacket, Random Studio created a Living Space for a two-week pop-up at Galeries Lafayette Champs-Élysées. Their installation takes the form of an industrial testing facility that puts the windproof qualities of the garment on display by setting the jackets in motion using electric fans.

And their recent work for Lacoste and Selfridges in London involved a store takeover that combined windows, a pop up runway and a rooftop pop up restaurant: all to celebrate a summer of tennis.

If you are looking for an agency at the cutting edge of digital and physical innovation, with a real expertise around sustainability and storytelling, then Random Studio are top of their game.
