Socially conscious Californian footwear brand TOMS has opened a flagship retail store and cafe in the historical heart of Thessaloniki. The new space, at the ground floor of the Preserved Building, wholeheartedly embraces the brand’s integration of sustainable and responsible practices.

FORMrelated has crafted an untouched, respectful look in keeping with TOMS’ fair trade philosophy.

The building’s original form has been retained as much as possible, with its finishes and hardware upcycled and repurposed. The old floor has been shifted on to the walls, original bricks and coatings have been revealed, and antique furniture has been repaired and reimagined. Any new elements reflect the brand’s global awareness: colourful textiles and wall prints speak to its international ambassadorship, and the creative signage embodies its giving spirit.

The entry arcade has been appointed with crisp, eye-catching signage that shares the TOMS story and ethos, including its “one for one” giving philosophy. A dynamic atrium space bursts with greenery and light, and is adapted to suit scheduled events. Product from across all the TOMS ranges is austerely arranged on neutral wooden displays, and a cafe serving TOMS Roasting Co products spills organically into multiple rooms, including an almost untouched basement space, with varied seating and soft lighting creating a homely feel.

With clear reverence for the building’s history, the design is one of minimal intervention – an approach that’s perfectly in line with the TOMS brand.
