Online retail behemoth Amazon was a catalyst in bringing the US shopping bonanza Black Friday to the UK – and is convinced that the Black Friday ‘holiday’ still has plenty of room to grow.

Amazon showroomed its own products at its Black Friday pre-holiday Pop-up.

A strategic kick-starter to the holiday shopping season, the four-day pop-up showcased products promoted through Amazon’s cost-saver Black Friday deals. The aim was to take the guesswork out of online shopping by giving consumers first-hand experience with the products before purchase.

Fashioned after an upbeat, colourful ‘home’ with a gonzo aesthetic, the pop-up was divided into different rooms featuring products themed around that setting. A highly decorated living room featured children’s toy and a polka-dotted games room showcased tech and gaming gear, while a Memphis-style teen bedroom incorporated a beauty centre – including makeovers from stylists. DIY tips and samplings were also provided in the kitchen and ‘garage’.

Products were labeled with scannable barcodes used for saving or purchasing items via the Amazon app. Informative signage and on-site experts were also available to fill in any knowledge gaps. Workshops, events and prize-winning games rounded out the experience – and no doubt helped inspire visitors to get a jump on their seasonal holiday shopping.

The Amazon Black Friday Pop up ran from 21 – 24 November 2017.
