Petersham Nurseries, a garden centre and restaurant that organically grew out of an elegant 17th-century home in Richmond, has sent out shoots further afield. A second destination has opened in a sprawling 16,000 square foot townhouse site in Covent Garden.

Housed within the new Floral Court development, the Grade II-listed space takes design cues from the brand’s first iteration, with lime-washed walls, dark-stained flooring, indulgent chandeliers and Italian textiles.

Bougainvillea and fairy lights drape the expansive area, which incorporates two restaurants, a delicatessen, a home and garden shop and a florist situated in a lush courtyard outfitted with rustic greenhouses and shabby chic decor.

Michaelis Boyd and the Boglione family have brought the quintessential English country garden to the heart of London.

Set amid an indulgently decorated multi-atrium space, the shop gathers together a hand-selected assortment of homewares, furniture and gifts. The nursery is verdant with indoor specialty plants, floral displays and artisanal tools; a potting service prepares and plants window boxes for customers to return home with.

The Italian-influenced delicatessen showcases seasonal produce, along with gourmet larder items and made-to-order small plates. Sommeliers are available to advise and recommend selections from a wide-ranging library featuring hundreds of fine Italian wines; tastings are also available.

2018 will see the opening of two boutique restaurants. The elegant Petersham takes inspiration from the Richmond location, with menus and decor that reflect a blend of British and Italian culture. Featuring an open kitchen, casual La Goccia is a vibrant all-day affair serving up small plates and theatrical ambiance.

Lush, calm and refined, Petersham Nurseries brings a touch of country quietude to busy urban setting.
