The Jelmoli department store in Zurich has always lived somewhat under the shadow of its more glamorous neighbour, Globus.

Certainly the Globus foodhall has long been a world class benchmark of excellence.

Now Jelmoli has upped the stakes with the opening of a brand new 20,000 sq ft foodhall, where food meets fashion.

The concept is a total Schweitzer project, with creative concept work by Interstore Design, realisation by Schweitzer Project and build by Interforce.

The result is a slick and sophisticated space, with the best of contemporary foodhall design, but with an added twist of fashion influenced merchandising flair.

The concept is themed as ‘Food meets Fashion’ with mannequins used in the visual merchandising

Mannequins in little black dresses punctuate the space blowing kisses to customers, whilst shoes in glass boxes sit alongside fresh food displays.

The opening was marked with a series of ‘Fashion and Food’ themed window displays.

The food market boasts Switzerland’s first cheese humidor by Naturli. It includes a cheese fondue area for take out or eat in.

Alongside the standard meat, fish and bakery counters sit an espresso bar, sushi counter and barbecue point.

Instore eating is a key part of the offer and Jelmoli offer various added value services; from personal shopping, recipe and ingredient tips, through to cookery classes and dinner events.

This is what a proper food hall is all about; stimulating all the senses in a gorgeous Smorgasboard of gourmet food!
