The gateway to thronging King’s Cross Station, Pancras Square is a heavily traversed space drawing commuters and students in the millions. Little wonder local brand Jigsaw has chosen it for its 87th store.

Checkland Kindleysides has created a changeable, theatre-inspired setting for upmarket fashion retailer Jigsaw.

Jigsaw is known for its personal approach to style, and its stores take a similarly individual approach, with each designed according to local and contextual needs. Its third in collaboration with Checkland Kindleysides, the brand’s latest offering is a theatrical outing imbued with a lofty, art studio ambience. High-ceilinged and open, the 232sqm space settles somewhere between gallery and stage.

Track lighting and a perimeter of theatre-style stage flats create an intimate, participative setting. Sparsely populated clothing racks provide a backstage wardrobe vibe, while metal staircases and rolling tables lined with product allude to stage production. Large-scale architectural props become home to footwear and knitwear, while fitting rooms are shaded by stage curtains.

Abstract artwork and geometric lighting installations suggest creativity and movement while also sectioning off different collections.

Signalled by the rotating Dress Project display visible from the street, everything in the space is changeable and malleable, allowing it to be reshaped and altered according to the needs of new collections or store events.

The result is a creative, contemporary space in one of London’s most thriving retail destinations.
