Intersect by Lexus is the ultimate brand building ‘Einstein Time’ concept; a “unique space where people can experience Lexus without getting behind the wheel of one of our cars”.

Designed by Masamichi Katayama, the design genius behind Wonderwall, the concept is a ‘Third Space’ where design, fashion, art, music and technology intersect.

Opened in Aoyama – Tokyo’s retail heartland, Intersect by Lexus is a cafe, bistro, store and events space that bills itself as a cultural hub rather than a car showroom.

‘The Garage’ on the ground floor, is an ever changing exhibition space for car culture and lifestyles rather than a traditional showroom.

The real essence is ‘takumi’ which in Japanese means both ‘‘artisan’’ and ‘‘craftsmanship,’’ a concept deeply embedded in both Lexus and Wonderwall’s design and philosophy. The wall is a sculpture of real Lexus parts spray painted white.

The ground floor features Fuglen, a Norwegian artisan coffee brand, whilst the Library lounge and bar on the first floor serves modern, Japanese themed foods, created by food director Daichi Tajima.

The idea is that the cool will rub off on Lexus; the luxury car brand from Toyota.

Another tribute to takumi is the ‘Crafted For Lexus’ initiative, a shop on the first floor which is a collaboration with Japanese artisans. It sells woven scarves to hand-glazed ceramics.

This first Intersect is due to be followed with a second lounge in New York’s Meatpacking District in 2015.

There are further plans for a third in Dubai.
